family/surfing holiday devon or cornwall?

for once looking to book my summer holidays early and stay in the uk for a change

need somewhere where i as a relative beginner surfer can surf as well as stuff to keep the wife and kids happy

been to woolacombe quite a few times so looking for somewhere bit like that

have looked at st ives but the cottages/apartments there look very expensive

anyone have any recommendations??

Have had many a jolly family holiday at Saunton Sands.... surf for me, rock pools and caves to explore for kids, beach huts to hire for hubby to sunbathe outside...
We often stay in the shed like chalets just behind the carpark..Saunton Beach Villas I think?
