maldives

hey there guys am leaving for the maldives on sunday and cant wait but am just wondering if it would be worth taking my board with me or not? has anyone been there to surf before? Im not sure what island it is but i know its the vilamendhoo resort and spa.
Any information about the currents or conditions for this time of year out there would be great

Only if it's big Dave and even then your are on one of 50 islands in the south Ari Atoll not known for its surf, you'll have to get a Dhoni to take you to the known surf spots= difficult to arrange from other resorts and expensive, hassle of boards not impossible, but just more than passingly difficult as for currents etc??????
Hope you like diving Speak severely to whoever booked the trip as you are going while there is still prime surf time

hi thanks yeah I didn't think it was a great place for surf but wasn't sure if there was enough to make it worth taking my board or not. I know, this was booked months and months ago its just me and the gf but I will prob be bored of diving and sunbathing after like 4 days so thought Id see if the board was a good idea apparently not. Also it prob changes it I haven't been surfing too long done a fair bit when I lived in South Africa but that was 12 years ago n haven't been on a board since really apart from couple times in last months so not after massive waves. cheers for the advise

I don't think the wave would be massive there but from what I can tell it needs a bigger swell to get into those areas, a lot of the Maldives waves are considered very user friendly, good book needed

think i will just take a load of surf mags lol. can you advise me on something please
I am 6'1 and weigh about 190 found this board and its very local and my mate is amazing with fiberglass and resin do you think it would work if tried ridding this board remember am just getting back into it but gonna spend a fair bit of time on the water http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260849276242? ... 824wt_1139

It'sjaffabigdave, I don't think that board will be the go for you even if it's similar to what you were riding before, your muscle memory should come back but your will notice that your paddle fitness etc will be way down, but can only get better.

If you have a little cash I'd look at a bigger volumed board of bigger dimensions than what you were surfing before, because like all of us you are probably slightly bigger dimensions than you were before I'm of similar weight but a little shorter and I'd find paddling that board difficult.
There are plenty of boards out there that are catering to surfers of our dimension and you don't have to go to a long board
if you are going to spend the time in the water, that's a great start but I think that board will just frustrate the heck out of you.
I ride as short boards a 7S 7'3" and and 8' Surftech G&S Magic fish, both epoxy extra float, other boards I've that may fit are Channel Islands Pod and Gravy and Rusty Dwarts quite a lot of good board brands have a weight and volume scale that helps too.

Ok thanks I'll keep a eye out for 7' something boards like I said just getting back into it and have forgotten pretty much everything. The fitness side isn't a problem as I swim every morning and the weights most nights plus have been doing professional Mma fighting for the last 2 years. Again I really appreciate the advise n help. Think I'm gonna have to get some surf mags n books for next 2 weeks lol
