Honolulu Questions

Postby ignastrad » Mon Dec 21, 2009 7:34 am

I just moved back to Honolulu. I grew up here, but never really had time to learn to surf (never made time...) I wanna learn now, though. Anyone know any good places to go to learn/shop around/ask questions. I don't want to deal with all the tourists in Waikiki. I have a few friends who I can probably get to help me out in exchange for beer but I was wondering if anyone on O'ahu had any suggestions.

Best spot to learn: White Plains, Ewa Beach. There's plenty of people out in the water, but the amount of people this spot can hold is top notch. Waves breaking everywhere, especially on good combo trade days. It's the equivalent of Canoes only on a larger scale. Sandy bottom (just watch out for the rip current), rental surfboards for military, you can't go wrong. As for shopping around, I must say the town shops are garbage; I hate to say this, but if you want decent gear and people who KNOW what they're talking about, drive up countryside. If any town resident such as myself begs to differ, please enlighten me.
