Surfing in Australia

hi guys,

I'm from the UK and I'm going to Australia in November for the month. I'm going to Sydney, Melbourne, and driving along the Great Ocean Road, to Adalaide.

can anyone tell me some good surf spots for an average surfer,(i'm used to small surf between 2 to 6ft) and also good surfshops to hire proper boards from?

I'm only going to be able to get one or two days surfing in any one location as we have loads of places to see and a wedding to go to, so i really dont want to wast any time looking for surf hire and surf breaks, so any local info you guys have would be cool.

If you're in Sydney, look east, walk to shore, there - you've found somewhere to surf.

If you're in Melbourne or Adelaide, there wont be anywhere to surf.

If you're between Melbourne and Adelaide, there'll be somewhere to surf.

Far fewer hire places around than you'd imagine - if you're travelling, you'd be better off picking up a cheap board in Sydney.

If i needed directions to the coast line then i shouldn't even be thinking about going in the water!
to be honest i was really hoping for info on hire shops, i'm flying between sydney and melbourne so dont want the hassel of trying to get a board on the flight. could be a good option for the drive along the ocean road though.

anyone got a super cheap 7ft ish thruster they want to offload? in the melbourne to torquay area? i could give it to my mate as a wedding gift when i'm done with it!!

You might have to go to some tour guide and ask them where could you go to a good surfing location for an average surfer like you. On a surfing location, you could hire a surf board there. Yes it could be a good option to drive along the ocean road.
