To All the Indonesian surfers here!

Postby subasurf » Tue Jul 14, 2009 12:13 pm

Selamat sore (well it is here anyhow) to all the Indonesian surfers out here. I am heading over to Bali next week for a couple weeks of what I hope is some solid surfing and plenty of beers. I'm still a quite an amateur surfer (as in, I get barrels okay, can drop in, do a few turns but no serious carving) and I really wanna make the most of my trip.

So here's the question: Which beaches should I be hitting up?
I'm planning on checking out Kuta just because I know it's a pretty simple sand beach break and it's the easiest accessed beaches but I'm sure I'll get sick of the other crowding pretty quick. Just wondering where I can go to get some nice waves (not large, just small/medium) that aren't too gnarly. Beach or rocky/reef, it doesn't matter.
*note* I'm staying in Legian.

Looking forwards to surfing my arse off and finally putting my 7 years of Indonesian studies to good use ;)

Go to Canggu or Uluwatu for more waves than Kuta. You studied Indonesian? Cool. Where? When will you be there? I'll be there early August.

Haha no way I'm ready for the waves at Uluwatu man! ;) Bugger that.
Yeah I studied indo here in Australia at school. It was mandatory in my primary school that students be taught Indonesian and at highschool it was mandatory that students study a second language. I'm there from next week untill early August, then back again in December for a few weeks.

I would suggest u stay in kuta because it's really the center of everything... if u don't like the break there, just check out those tour booth along the streets and they have everything for u including surf trips... besides, it's much cheaper to stay in that area, simply because of the competition... locals r friendly n services r super... u'll like it

oh, btw i'm not from bali, but simply love it!

paddle paddle paddle...

Be careful it rainy these days.. The water will be so cold.
Yes that's right. But the bad side is, Kuta is really busy. Find more information before you pick a place to stay.

Kuta is packed but good for the nightlife....Canguu is quality but you need to be there in the morning early before the wind picks up and spoils it before midday. Great spot though. Ulu's great but you can get sliced to bits on the reef..Advanced only! Try dreamland instead, beautiful little beach and great spot, and more forgiving than Ulu's!

Well I got back from Bali this morning back to Australia. Had a really good trip and spent most of my time surfing the average beach breaks at Kuta and the really good breaks out at Dreamland. Heading back in a few months so I can't wait to get back out there. Then back a few weeks again after that trip ;)
