Surfin round Australia

Postby J.R » Thu Jul 23, 2009 7:58 am

G'day to all

I'm a novice surfer living in Darwin. No surf here except once-offs due to monsoons/cyclones. I skim and still spend alot of time in the water anyway.

So, I plan to head off around australia next year, visit most of the coastal regions and do alot (ALOT) of surfing. Just a few mates, a van and some boards. So the plan is simply hit all 3 coasts for some fun and surf. But I just really want to know the viability of such a plan- are we gonna end up with dry spells of no surf? Is it gonna be a largely no go zone for beginners?

Just any advice to aid with this epic journey I hope to embark on would be pretty gnarly.

you should be able to find breaks along east coasts easily... probably find out where the surfing schools are, the waves there would tend to be easier to surf, that's why they establish surfing schools there...
