South West France

Hey, long time no post.

I'm hoperfully gong traveling next year starting july/august. Thinking of staying in biarritz area for at least a couple of months. Gonna try and get used to bigger / more powerful waves. Anyhow...been searching the internet for places to stay, like a flat to rent and it all seems to be geared towards holiday rentals ( fecking expensive ). Anyone know anything about renting in the area or somewhere to stay for a few months on the cheap.

Cheers Fletcher.

I rent a flat in Biarritz. You want cheap, rent September to June, avoid July and August when the waves & beaches are overrun, the lineups full of kooks and angry locals, the waves are small and rent quadruples. The best surf in Biarritz is usually Sept/Oct anyway.

Biarritz is also the most expensive city in the region, Anglet is bigger surf and cheaper, so is Hossegor, Cap Breton, Seignosse, Lacanau, Tarnos, Ondres (roughly in order from more expensive to cheaper)...

Just don't go in July & August. The population multiplies by 10 during those two months, everything is full, and the rent is insane.

jon.biarritz,
thanks for this good info. I'm going to file it away for when I get to go there.

OTOH if you want beach parties, clubbing, young people and women, July and August are when that all happens in Biarritz.

The waves in Anglet at VVF were really nice over Christmas holidays, a 15 minute walk from where I am. Sunny every day, not too cold, clean chest to overhead waves. A lot of surfers & bodyboarders in the water though (15 to 30 per spot).
