Costa Rica in early December

Postby meanvicky » Fri Oct 22, 2004 5:41 pm

Got a free trip to CR for only a week in December (yes, I'm N.American) - to visit Arenal with my girl for a few days and then surf anywhere I want after - does anyone have an opinion on where to go to maximize my chances of catching decent swell size? Naranjo? Guiones? Puerto Viejo? Dominical? It looks like I've got the worst time of the year to go - any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks -

Worst Time to visit CR

I've just read that the late November early December time-frame enjoys the least amount of swell. If you have different info - you've got my enthusiastic attention.

I've surfed all over CR and its awesome. From Arenal you can reach Witches rock. Its a days driving (might not look it on a map, but the track down to the beach is VERY bad). Take a good 4x4 and lots of water/insect repelent. Its well worth it. Alternativly head for The West Coast and pray for Swell.

If your aiming for Puerto Viejo be careful. Its a dificult wave so don't attempt it unless your fiarly experienced. Also the village is getting a bit rough so watch your back.

Its a beautiful country so have fun.

Good luck

PS. I was there circa 2000 so info is 5 years old

Would like to hear how the waves ended up being. I am hoping to make it to Costa Rica this year. Did you find any great spots?
