Surfing Waves

I was surfing on a 7'10" egg shapped funboard, it was pretty thick board, sometimes I felt like the board was slow, and I the control wasn't good so that I could build speed. This board is broken now, so forget about it.

Recently I surfed on my friends 7'8" that instead of being the traditional egg shapped board, has more of a pulled in nose (a little bit more triangular) and has a squash tail. I did feel I had more control over the board and I was able to get more speed. This board had a weird width, 23" wide.

So, now I am shopping for a new one, and I would like more control. I don't wanna jump to a shortboard yet. I am thinking of getting a 7'8" or a 7'6".

Would it help me with control and speed? Would a 7'6 fun be too small for me since I am 6'1 tall and weigth 175lbs?

Someone I know is selling this board below, looks like this shape could give me more control cause it's kind of hybrid. What do you think? It's a 7'6.

yeah go for a funboard, i would even say go shorter than 7-6 if you find a 7-10 slow, i treid a funboard once, a 7-0, and i found it unbearably slow to turn and unresponsive. your pretty ligh for someone whos 6ft1 so you shouldnt have too much trouble on something smaller, or if u do go for something around 7-6 dont go too thick.

I started with a 7`mal, then went down to a 6`8`` fat boy. Took some time to get used to.

u mean 8' or 9' ? a 7' wouldnt be a pretty short mal, and there wouldnt be much difference in moving down 4" to a funboard.

yeah get yourself a shorter funboard than 7'6. maybe around 7' would be best it will take a while to get used to but should be easier to chuck around and progress. which i guess is what you want. you could even think of getting a short funboard around 6'10 or shorter. doing that would mean you can surf it like a begginner board but you wont grow out of it. i ave a 6'8 funboard and (as those who have met me will tell you) it catches waves really easy but i can chuck it around like a shortboard.

ive ridden on the bic 7.9 7.6 and 7.3 progressivly while renting.
i did not find the transitions too dificult but i am a small guy (5.5 125 pounds)
the 7.3 had some movement but not enough, it was really slow.
My friend has a 7.4 hybrid (its green!!!) and once you pick up speed its pretty responsive. It makes everything much smoother and yet has a good turning abiliitie.
