I am 30 years old and have done 3 surfing lessons down in Florida. I have been out at the ocean and have slowly mastered the basics as well as turning my board.

What I am trying to ask is; is three lessons to soon to drop some cash on a new surfboard or should I continue taking more lessons?

In between answer but very suitable……….. spend a few days hiring boards , long and soft and see how you go! You will know almost immediately whether you need more lessons and if you hire several different boards you might get an idea of the direction of board type you need.
Stick around learning areas often surf schools have a non lesson time where students of hires can recognise their progress

It's not about having your "own board". What's important about learning to surf with a (good) surf instructor, is the extra pair of eyes looking out for you. Using his wave knowledge to keep you safe and in a beneficial place to catch waves.

But let's say, you got the funds to buy a new board. What would you buy ?
