First Surfboard - Short Height

Postby Locky12 » Mon Sep 27, 2021 8:09 pm

Hi everyone,

I appreciate there's lots of questions about surfboards so thanks in advance for any help and guidance.
I am new to surfing (had 2 lessons down in Cornwall during the summer) and have been out twice over the last 2 weeks.

I live in South/West Wales. I have managed to borrow a foam board from a friend with the aim of using it as much as I can between now and Christmas and then treating myself to a new hardboard at that point.

My height is 5ft and my weight 56kg. The foam board I have borrowed is 7ft 6, but what I am finding is that if my feet are at the back when catching the wave I am not tall enough to get my foot in the middle of the board to ride it but if I start any more further forward to help me achieve that - I nose dive. I can stand well and ride the waves to shore.

So I suppose my main question is - what length/style board would you recommend?

I love the look of the Torq mod fun boards and have heard good things about them.

Thanks again in advance!

I am 5’2” 56 kg. I normally ride a 9’0”. You are too static. You need to be like nature, ever changing. Sometimes you need to be back, sometimes more forward. Each time the wave breaks differently. On a 6’6” my toes land near the tail, on a 7’6” my toes are not. Your problem lies with your paddle and pop up……… NOT the board.

Imagine you have a hammer and keep missing the nail short. Should you go by a longer handle hammer ?
( fix the Indian, NOT the arrow )
