which is stronger epoxy or polyester?

Hi everyone : )

I am getting a new board and I have the choice between epoxy or polyester.

I really want the board to be strong and not break right away (I have 2 other boards that had a crack in the middle after just a few sessions, probably because I press down on the board quite hard when doing maneuvers).

So now I was wondering which would be the most durable..

Also, the two other boards I have are standard glassing. With the new one I get 6oz. Does this already make a difference and is it enough to not worry about the glassing?

I would be super happy with any advice on this

Cheers
Nick

Usually people go with a certain glassing schedule for durability. I think the most common for strength vs weight is 4+4/6 (2 layers of 4oz cloth on the deck / 1 layer of 6oz on the bottom).

Epoxy vs Poly has lots of different tradeoffs to consider aside for strength. For epoxy look into chatter, car/120 degree issues, buoyancy differences, springier. Poly is more user friendly imo but there's a bunch of things to consider individually

LIGHT, STRONG, CHEAP. You can choose 2 of the 3.

Cheap & Strong. It won't be light.
Light & Cheap. It won't be strong.

Going to a heavier glass schedule will change the flex and mass of how you fling the board back and forth. Even if you add a carbon fiber strip on the deck, I don't think it will matter since you press down so hard with your feet on maneuvers.
