Surfing Waves

Hi all, sorry for posting about board advice but using the fórum search I was not able to find someone with 5'5 and 63kg.

Im new at surfing and rarely catching waves using a 5'8 twister.

I was thinking in getting a new board but I really dont know if I want a 9'1 longboard or a 7'6 funboard. They are both soft top.

I know the basics of surfing and Im looking for a board that I can use when the waves are bad and good.

I was thinking that maybe the 7'6 is better because it will be faster and easier to turn but everybody usually recomends a longboard and I like it too. The problem is that Im afraid it would be harder to paddle out in a stronger day.

Can you guys please tell me what I should get?

I am really curious why, when everybody is recommending a longer board you think differently!
Catching waves is the first criteria you need! Good paddle power is what you need, and then you can turn after catching the wave, any basic turn is best learned on a longer board as a basic learner doesn’t nor is capable of radical turns. The basic skill built upon provide the next steps to improve. people ride pipeline and other extreme waves on longboards!
A board is not a limiting factor, lack of appropriate skills is!
Get out to the break zone is an acquired skill , short board duck diving, longboard turtle rolling. better still is surf break knowledge ; seeing the best way to paddle out, timing your paddle out, using the knowledge of rips.
Saying I know the basics, does not equate to I can do the basics.
Now short answer , go long!

Obrigado, nice don’t go for high performance at your stage a good all round board with a centre fin box and plugs for side bites.... the centre fin box will let you try various fins and the side bite will give you versatility, + the option to try a single fin centre.
When you can turn well forehand and back hand and work up and down across the face with good cutbacks and other skills, then think shorter!

Just enjoy the fun of learning

Just brought a soft top longboard 9'1 a few hours ago. It was expensive but im sure I will enjoy way more than using a short board.

Once I get some waves I will record and post here so you guys can see some progress and the brazilian beach itself.

Post a picture of your board... always a good idea before you put your Real down but bought is bought!

And why do you think that ? Who told you, what website or which youtube video said that ?

Question: Which do you think is faster around a race track, my Honda Civic or a F1 race car ?
