Hello together and good evening,

I need some help from you advanced surfers.
I want to buy a softboard for my girlfriend. She is now surfing for some years. She already had two surf courses. In the second one, she got blue-water waves (4-5 feet) with a 7´6 and a 6´10 surfboard.
She also managed first turns with the 6´10 surfboard. Catching waves is not the problem, she´s very use to water and to waves (Schwinning, boogy-Boarding before).

Now i have this two boards. I thougt they fit her needs. The now wants to learn really turn-of´s and of course, longer surfes on the wave. Not just only go with the white water to the beach with a longboard, but "working" with the wave:

(easier to learn turn of´s because of the fish shape? Or is it al lt more shaky than the mod fun?

(thicker than the ocean storm. Turn of as possible as the OS, better or less possible?

The Board she had was the ocean storm hybrid 6´10.

The´s 1,67m; 63kg. Sportive, strong.

Thank you very much for your help!!

Based on the website you're linking. I'm going to assume you're in Germany or somewhere closeby? North Sea doesn't really have good waves so I would be surprised a board that size will work in those condition.

I'm also a little concern because she is surfing a 6´10 and she doesn't know how to do the more advanced moves. Usually if you're surfing something like that, it means you're able to surf well. Or it might be misunderstanding your English.

Either way, both 6'6 and 6'8 surfboard are great for an intermediate surfer. Torq makes pretty good surfboard and they are very durable and fun. Personally I would go with 6'8 because of the swallowtail in 6'6. I find the swallowtail a little harder.

Go for the bigger board. A 6’8 board isn’t that hard to turn and that isn’t the priority for now anyway (she has a lot of more basic skills to develop first).

Thank you very much for your two comments.

@ BaNZ, no, North sea isn´t really good :-D If we go surfing (and there isn´t a lockdown :-D ) we are surfing at the atlantic boarder in France. - Much better ;-)

@dtc, ok, so I will prefer the 6´8´´ . As the surf-guide already said, size is your friend. But I think, the range between 6´8´´ und 7´0´´ is good for her because the 7´6´´ she didn´t liked that much. It was too hard for her to go outside. Turtle-roll wasn´t that easy. And on the other hand, she hadn´t big problems to handle the 6´10´´ in waves - paddeling, standing, moving.
So the 6´8´´ might be very good tho have fun (and she needs so speed for "fun") and having to learn because of the board.

Thanks very much and have a nice day!!

Or what do you think about this one:

7´0´´ fish ocean and earth:

For beginners longer is better. However the O&E one has soft fins that are not standard and there aren’t many options. Fins are often the weak point in softboards especially as you start pushing the board. The Torq one uses futures fins, so you can use different fins and get better fins if you need. What about the 7’2 torq softtop?

Hi dtc,
thanks for this hint. So O&E is out.
Yes, 7´2´´ would be another option. Maybe, I prefer the 6´8´´ because of the psychology items :-)
Think shes more motivated with that. My board ist bigger, so she also could change if we need a few waves to get the feeling back.

Thank you very much für your help!!
