Retro pintail Small Waves

Postby kin » Mon Jun 03, 2019 3:59 pm

Hello!

So, I've been looking for a mid-lengh board, and got a deal on a 7'8 x 21 single fin retro winged pintail with down rails ($150). I was actually looking for something in the likes of a 6'9 x 22 single fin. Since i was also in the looks for a board with a good paddling power on the lines of a Longboard, but a log won't fit in my car (and there's no way to place a roofrack on it...) I got the board.

Now I'm wondering, how do you guys think this board will behave on small waves ? 3-6ft ? How will it behave on fat waves ?

I'm far from being a pro and regularly ride either a 5'5 retro fish or a 6'0 shortboard. What I'm looking for : something fun to ride, won't be making tricks on it, has to be easy to paddle since at my place I have to compete with lots of longboarders, but still can't transport one.

I'm asking here wanting to know : do you guys think that the board I got fills the gap between both boards I wanted, because that's the reason I got it (6'9 single fin X 9'0 longboard), or should I keep looking for one of the two?

p.s. I'm aware that I got a tube rider 70's inspired surfboard, intended to be used on medium-large hollow waves. I'm taking it out of it's environment since I won't be riding those kind of waves anytime soon.

It's a board made for down-the-line speed, not mushy beach break. The 70's style outline you'll need to step up a quite a bit for speed. But with that tight pin tail, you'll really need to get back to turn.
Looks like a lot of volume up front so should paddle fine, but hope you know how to bottom turn a single fin wing pin tail.
Question: what size / type single fin you going to put in it ?
