Wobbly pop up on shorter board...is it the tail width? pics

Hey, Ive got two boards that I'm using to transition towards a shortboard on, one is a 7'2 epoxy NSP fun/fish, the other is a 6'8 PU board.
On the 7'2 popping up is no problem, feels quite stable. On the 6'8 however I occasionally have a tough time. Im wondering if it is maybe the tail width (or just possibly the lower volume overall?) Just curious if anyone may have some insight.
I believe I plant my back foot first during my popup.
28 years old, 5'9, 195lbs, surf 3 days a week waist to slight overhead reefbreaks (south shore oahu)
Board dims
7'2 x 22" x 2 5/8" (51L)
6'8 x 21" x 2 3/4 (?L)

The only way I can see having a wobbly popup is if it is too slow. If you are fast enough there is no time to be wobbly

Iām not clear on your wobbly problem.
When getting to your feet you feel wobbly ?
After getting to your feet and driving down the face the board feels wobbly ?
Does the 6ā8ā feel the same wobbliness in waist high waves as it does in over head waves ?

The 6ā8 is obviously narrower
What are the rails like? Thinner rails are less stable.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have to take the board out a few more times and try to identify exactly where the instability seems to be. I have a feeling it might be a combination of minor foot placement issue and a slow/hesitant popup in head high conditions, as well as infrequent use of this board.
Chan, its a quad setup at the moment and felt super loose during my bottom turn (almost too loose) Especially compared to my 2+1 longboard and the thruster nsp.
on my two bigger boards I don't have to think about the pop up. Now with this 6'8 i'm starting to have to think, if that makes sense. Again it might just be that I need to spend a dozen or two sessions on just this board to get the feel and minor adjustments down.
Regarding the rails, now that I'm thinking about it, they're definitely thinner than the nsp. According to the dimensions the nsp and 6'8 are both similar thicknesses, however I almost cant believe that.because it seems so much thinner, which is weird. I guess the thickness tapers from the stringer to the rails ?

Is it a quad only set up or a tri-quad ? If it's a tri-quad, make it in to a Thruster set up until you learn the ins and outs of the board.
