Help Picking new Performance board??

Postby Pj0915 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 2:27 am

Hey guys,

Ive recently been looking at the Lost Driver. It seems like it will be great to use as a high performance board on good days here in Jersey, I need a Board that can perform well in 3 - 6 foot surf as I already have a 6'0 Fish for when the surf is really small or weak. My only concern about the Driver is that ive heard that people lose stability with it once the surf exceeds 5 feet or so. Also, I want to make sure It will be controllable when the waves get steeper, and we start to get deeper barrels. Does anyone have any recommendations for boards to fit this Criteria?

For the sake of reference , sticking with the Lost Lineup,For steep fast hollow waves, shapes like Lost Rock up, Double up and Indo Driver work....but I'm sure the driver would work fine if you're talking about head high waves....double overhead and hollow I'd say that you should have a board specifically for those conditions........worried about stability in bigger waves and wanting a manuverable pro style contest board are at odds since manueverable equals unstable and vice versa. A board like the Round Up is a kind of compromise between a step up/mini gun and a shortboard like the driver.

is that 3-6 foot faces or 3-6 foot Hawaiian (ie shoulder high to double overhead)? For the former then, as BigH says, most boards should work. Your fish should work fine.

For the latter, you may want a step up board (well, from 1.5OH i guess), longer than your fish.

6'0" Fish for 6 foot surf ? No way, man. Should get a 5'7" Fish for double over head 10-15' waves. Indian not the Arrow my friend. Watch Tom Curren explain.

I paddled out to this reef break in Japan with my 6'4" NSP fish "pop out". The locals out there had 8'6" semi-guns. One of them paddles over to me after noticing the NSP logo. "You sure you okay out here on that ?" he asked. "I guess I'll be fine ?" I replied. After I took off on a 6+ foot set and paddled back, he said " ah, you're fine".
