Surfing Waves

Hey everyone,
I went for a couple surfing lessons and really liked it, so I went out and got this foam board at a discounted price

I’m 20 and a 5 feet 6 (168cm) female that weighs about 52kg (114-115pounds) and plans on surfing at least twice a week. I looked around for advice but am still a little confused on whether this is the right shape type and size for me, or if the 6 feet 6 surfboard would be okay as well, thank you!

The board you have is definitely better than a 6’6 version. The longer the board the more margin for error in paddling, wave catching, popping up etc. indeed, an even longer board than 7ft would be fine (general suggestion is about 3ft over your height).

The shape is fine as well

That said I don’t know the board - it looks a bit like an oversized body board, with soft fins, so it might be a bit too flexible/soft for anything over small waves. But for smaller waves or white water it will be fine.

Welcome to the world of surfing, it is a little confusing, a longer more suitable soft board would have been better but early stage it will be adequate.
When you are ready to explore new boards ask here and around! There is a lot of help available and so hold off a little before your next purchase.
The board you have is adequate, still a child’s toy shape, if you surf lots you will soon develop skill beyond what this shape can offer.
Soft fins bend under pressure in turns as may the board, the rails won’t give as much grip for going across the wave,.
You will gain wave and beach knowledge paddling around, if you can borrow some other boards to gain more understanding.
You are at the beginning of an exciting and special journey early missteps are really no problem!
