question

Hey everyone I am in Miami, Fl. I just picked up surfin 2 weeks ago and took some lessons on some foamies. I plan to surf 3-5 times a week at south beach and deerfield beach, these are usualy smaller waves. I have been told by some surfer legend guy named the bug kahuna (runs a surf school)) to get a Hybrid: 7’6 – 8’ x 21 – 21 ¾ x 2 ¾ - 3 or a
Longboard: 9’ x 22 ½ x 3. although he got very technical in the differences beyween them i have some q's. Is a hybrid and a longboard equal in wave catchability?lol? from wut i understand longboard is easiest to catch waves on but once u stand up there isnt as much to do as opposed to a hybrid where its harder to catch waves but once u do theres more stuff to do? please some1 break it down for me and make some recommendations thanks
