Hi!
I'm new to longboarding and I'm getting my first one from a local shaper (I live in Lima - Peru), it will be a 9'6 with a 2+1 setup.

Here are the longboard specs

I just don't know what kind of fins should I buy.

Any thoughts?

:)

If I were you, I would ask the shaper what he would recommend for you based on the board they made, how you plan to ride and local conditions. There are a world of fins out there; at least he will give you a starting point.

I personally go 2+1 in bigger surf only, so to that end I use gx sized (rears from stretch copy quad set) sidebites and a cutaway center fin....I have a 6.5 that I use for that. If I want more control than that I use med sized side fins from a thruster set with the cutaway. I also have a center fin based on.a pc 7 template and have tried it with side fins from a large sized thruster set for a full thruster set up....I was ok but I like the 2+1 on that board better. I'm 92kg and ride longboards on bigger days on reef breaks.

I like the greenough 4a as a single....there is a pic in the attached link in the previous post. In that template a 9" fin for a 9' board, 10" fin for a 10' board is a fair rule of thumb starting point. I use an 8.5" in my 9'2" on the smaller days I usually go single. If it is bigger I have a 9" 4a I will use. The extra half inch does not account for the total area difference in the fins which is noticeable.

Jaffa has posted a fin primer; should have a look at that.

As Big H said, ask the shaper NOT us. It's his design, he knows what works best for it.

Questions:
1) Were you a previous shortboarder and now getting into Longboarding ? If so, why go to a 9'6" ?
2) What fin system are you ordering for the side fins ? FCS 1 , FCS 2 or Futures ?
3) How do you get a 9'6" shape out of a 9'5" blank ?

Hi waikikikichan, you are right I'll ask the shaper.

About your questions:

1) I started learning several years ago with a shortboard but only surfed for 6 months and I picked up surfing again three months ago with a 7ยด board. Then a friend of mine lends me his 9'6'' and it was a blast! So I asked the shaper for something like that.
2) FCS 2
3) I have no idea :)

this is the board, and bought a 9.5'' Robert August fin (recommended by the shaper) https://robertaugust.com/collections/fins/products/robert-august-center-fin-9-5-by-futures.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I love it :)

Thank you all.
