Surfboard advice

Postby rocksteady » Tue Jul 25, 2017 4:35 pm

Hello,

I'm a 20 year old begginer to intermediate surfer, although I have been skating and snowboarding for a long time.
I am 5'6 and 125 lbs and am looking for a new shortboard.
My local waves are beachbreaks (Portugal) and I'm looking for a board to be my daily board, that board that you can take to the beach without even spying on the waves. That means it needs to perform well from 2/4 ft surf (most frequent) to overhead and it must be responsive and fast, but also paddle friendly.
As I said, I've only been surfing for a year and a half, but I think my background in skate and snowboarding has helped me a lot, and I'm looking for a shortboard that suits the more progressive type of surfing, even in shorter waves, keeping in mind that I'm still learning.
Do you guys have any pointers as to maker/design, but also dimensions and volume?
Appreciate all the help!

My advice is to meet a local shaper and get a custom made board. Tell them what you want and they can likely custom make you a board that fits that description but be honest with them about your surfing ability.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
