OK, heres the deal. I learned to surf on a bodyboarding trip to Polzeath in cornwall last summer. i didnt bother go to the surf school on the beach i just hired out one of those 8' or so foam boards. i startd to pop up quite easily on the foam boards and was feeling quite confident so i paddled out to thee deeper section and caught plenty of, as Duncs would put it, green waves. By the end of the week i had progressed onto a shortboard. it was about 7' i think.
The point is I have just got a Bic 6'7" short board and i'm wondering if i will be able to progress on it. im quite small myself, about 5'7" and i weigh about 7.5 - 8 stones. any advice would be much appreciated

Although you will progress on this board you will find it a lot harder than if you were still on the foam longboard. Your size will help, but the fact that you cannot get out and practice all the time will count against you. If you want the quickest and best results I would see if I could get hold of a bigger board and put the Bic away for a few months.

Yeah i guess you're right that seems to be the general concensus on how to start surfin. however , until i can get my hands on a bigger board i guess i'll just keep at it. i'm quite fit (physically) will that help? I'll drop a line to say how i've been getting on.

I got an old second hand bic 6'6" short board. great board and hard to damage. I don't have much problem with it. I'v surfed since I was about 8 but only go about 4-5 times a year for a couple of weeks. have fun.

Hi Lunch Box, welcome to Surfing Waves.

It seems that the BIC boards are getting the thumbs up from everyone, I'll start a BIC post and then maybe do an information page on the main site.

Oh, congrats on being member #50! (no prize though)
