Hi,

I've got six weeks in Tonga this summer and want to get surfing. I know its not the best place to learn but that's where we are going and I want to make the most of it.
Any ideas on what sort of board (brands, shape, size etc) I should take out there would be very welcome. I'm about 5 foot 8 inches and weigh about 10 stone. I can get up on a small beach break but not much more.
At the moment I'm thinking a mini-mal would be best overall for six weeks but that a soft board might be best to start on. What do think?
Any general tips from anyone who has been out to Tonga would also be great.

Cheers, Paul

well size isn't every thing, i'm 5' 4" and my bored is about 6'
but remember that the smaller it is the harder it is to stand up and keep balance.

Hi Paul,

Soft boards are great for the absolute novice or small child but if you are surfing constantly for 6 weeks (and hopefully onwards) then a minimal is a much better option. The board is great for a beginner and will see you through to the intermediate surfer stage without having to upgrade your board.
