Surfing Waves

I am currently trying to buy a board on craigslist for cheap (since its way to expensive to rent for a month). Found this board but not sure if its surf friendly.

What do you guys think? Is it worth 50 bucks?
Btw I have never surfed before.

How long is it? It's hard to say but from the design it's probably too small for someone who has never surfed before

Its 6' 4'' . What about the quality of the board, if those dark spots make it float less?

Those dark spots probably represent damage to the foam and the board is too small for a beginner so if you get it the board will fall apart before you learn to use it. It would be cheaper than renting but not as much fun because it will be really a steep learning curve and you may not even surf a single wave before the board disintegrates a couple months into attempting to learn to surf with that board.

Too small since I'm thinking you're not 3 feet tall. First timer/newbies should learn on a board around 3 feet over your head. A Wavestorm sponge board is only 8 feet, but really thick and floaty, so that's okay too if you're not 200 lbs.

1) So are you on vacation somewhere for only a month ?
2) Are you currently taking lessons for a surf school ?
3) How good a swimmer are you ?
4) Do you snowboard ?

It may be that the board needs to be patched to make it waterproof since often dark spots like that come from small holes in the board that aren't easily visible so if you take the board out it will soak up water and do more damage

Yea I am currently on a month long vacation, pretty good swimmer, and I have snowboarded quite a bit. But if I need something like 8 feet for beginning then ill probably give this one a pass.

2) Have you tried / plan to join a surf lesson ?
3) If you have never surfed before, shouldn't you try renting first before you buy ? Since you're not sure what you should get or what you're getting into ( just in case you can't feel your arms or neck for a couple days ).
