new shortboard

hey guys I need some help here,
I've been surfing for about 5 months now and getting better, I bought a board (6'8 with plenty of volume) without knowing much about surfing as I was so keen to just go out. It's a nice board but a bit of struggle to turn nice. im looking into more shortboards to find better agility. im about 5'6/5'7 and 55kgs - what would be a suitable board (dimensions) THANKS! :D

It's alright you just need to know it is not the board you have ( purchased when you didn't know ) it is you that cannot turn, going shorter will not increase you ability to turn. Improving your skills will.

The buy before you know program is a recipe for frustration , buying a second shorter board before you know makes the whole debacle worse.
I have moved your post to surfboard advice.... there is plenty of the advice you need here. Have a read through.
Don't worry what you have done is a common mistake and the forumites offer lots of advice, see what you make of it!

Saying 'my board is too long, I cant turn it' is sort of like saying 'my running shoes are too slow and I cant win a race' or 'my skis are too fast and I keep falling over'. It takes a long while to develop your surfing skills; stay with your board (or even a longer one) and keep learning. Eventually you will realise 6'8 is easily turnable

Struggle to TURN or Struggle to TURN NICE ?
So you are currently turning the 6'8" ?
( bottom turn, top turn, turn downs both front side and backside. And maybe working on cutbacks ).
Also maybe you unknowingly bought a big wave board ( step-up or mini-gun ) built for speed not maneuverability? Is it a pin tail or squash tail ? What fin set up / size ? That makes a difference too.
