New Surfer Need Surfboard

Just started surfing and have a new found love for it! However I'm not yet extremely comfortable and have been borrowing friend's board for a while. I wanna look into getting a board of my own but not yet ready to splurge on an expensive one since I'm still a kook. I'm 5'3 100lbs and was wondering what type of surfboard I should look into. If you could tell me about the type of board I could get that would be great! And maybe leave some links down. Thanks so much.

How old are you and which beaches or area are you planning to surf?
The younger you are will make a difference to your learning speed and howoften you plan to hit the water. The beach.......... the suitability for learning is important .
Then we can link you into something that will help!

What size / style board are you currently borrowing from your friend ?

Are you able to catch "green" waves on that ?

I'm 15 and I usually go to the East Coast of FL where the waves aren't so big but good for a beginner to start out on. Hope this helps.

What size / style board are you currently borrowing from your friend ?

It's a foam board 6'2. But it doesn't feel sturdy enough since I don't catch a lot of waves with it. I'm 15 and it feels like a younger person board. I was looking into getting a "funboard" made from fiber glass or epoxy from NSP or Torq but I'm not sure about the dimensions or the material I should get. Also, it can't be so expensive since I'm on a tight budget. Hope this helps!! Thanks

The Torq is a good board. Given where you surf I'm tempted to say the 7ft6 or the 8ft is best. However, given your age and weight, then IF you plan on surfing regularly (once a week or more) then you could try the 7ft2. It will be quite a bit harder to start on but regular surfing at your age and you should pick it up with a bit of commitment. However if you arent surfing regularly or will have frequently have long gaps (3-4 weeks) between surfs, then go for the bigger boards

The bigger the board the easier to learn
