Name this board?

Hello all. I'm new to the surfing as I grew up in middle America. Came across this board at a garage sale and thought it was a perfect time to learn. However, I know nothing about this board and wondering if anyone knows a thing or two about it and/or if this is even a good board for me. I'm 5'9" and 180lbs.

has "Shapes Hawaii" logo and
signed by sheeno/sneeno
7'2" x 19 1/4" x 2 3/4"

cheers,

Mike

Mike have a read through surfboard advice and see why I would suggest the answer of no! Whatever the price spending money on a board that is most likely to hinder your learning is a waste!
I suggest taking a few lessons and see and be advised in real life, if you catch the Stoke. :lol:

I really don't understand surfboard design that well, but my gut feeling is telling me something just doesn't look right with that board. The fins look too compacted together. Your back foot is supposed to go over your fins on a frequent basis, but the width of the tail of your board doesn't look like your back foot would find that spot easily. The tail shape also doesn't look like a normal squash tail. I would go with a used Wavestorm (much wider so more stability) and ride it till you feel confident that you can catch and ride waves with some competency. Save the garage sale board for later or put some pillows under it and practice popping up on it in your living room. Just my two cents.

For Rinky;
Your gut feeling is right, it is not a beginners board ,but nor is it anything like a squash tail.
It is a gun board for double over head or serious waves in the hands of an experienced surfer, it is a narrow swallow tail and the fin placement is based so that, it may be the only part of the board engaged in a serious steep drop.
There is however nothing wrong with the design :!: .
It fulfills the need for speed.

The board's name is Sammy Semi Serious Gun. :lol:

Thanks for the info. I learned from it. I didn't see that swallow tail. I haven't turned enough on different boards (on any board other than my Wavestorm actually) to have any experience of how tail shape influences turning. It's probably a fine board, but terrible for getting started, just like my 15 year old 7'2" gun. One day soon though, I'm going fly on my gun when the right swell comes along. I miss winter already.

I've gotta say, it's a classy looking gun, as other said, it's a gun so it's just for heavy waves not for your everyday surfing enjoyments, plus it shouldn't be that manoeuvrable, it's rails are built to lock in place on a wave and go straight across the face, you can't do much turning with that baby.
