Surfing Waves

Hey guys ive been uming and arring about purchasing this board for a while just wanted some advice from everyone. I started surfing about 12 months ago renting a soft board and progressed quickly and after about a month i purchsed an 8"2 second hand long board. Am cpnfident on my front side but still working pn the back side. I surfed a mates 7"2 fun board with 44L and it felt amazing. My board felt like a cork ontop of the water where as this sat in the water nicely and seemed to cut through rather than bounce. I understand that this is due to his being PU and mine being epoxy.
Im considering the 7s superfish3 cv for a board as the 6"6 still has a good amount of volume in the right places to help keep things fun for me and helping me progress.
Does anyone have any experience with the built and ride quality of these boards??

I surf in sydney to give you an idea pf the type of surf ill be usong it in.

I plan to have this board for a while as it seems to be in that hybrid area.

And suggestions would be great guys

Hi Bazzington, your history almost same as mine except you can add 20 years to the age!
I recently bought a 7 ft 7s Superfish 3 which was a 'B' model meaning it had a defect but I am still to find the defect???
Initially struggled with the board coming down from an 8 ft mini mal but slowly getting used to it. Doesnt have the glide of the mal and I cant ride it as well as the mal ..... yet! Need to put more hours in on the Fish but I can feel it is more responsive and hopefully it will eventually raise my level of surfing to shortboard compatible!
Only downside for me is that I cant duck dive it very well , too much volume!
I am no surfing expert by any means but happy with my purchase! The only problem seems to be me

Built quality ? The factory it is made in is has an ISO 9001 certification. Which also makes parts for Ducati and Ferrari.

Ride quality ? I've sold many in both epoxy and PU. No complaints from customers. The one I tried had a step deck, not sure if that feature is still there.

Looks like they removed the step deck. Too bad, cause that was a good selling point being it had hidden volume with more tapered rails than if it didn't have the step deck.

Funny, one of the reviews said " and eventually I could stand up and ride a 6'8" for a few seconds ". That's not riding, that's delayed falling.

"This highly functional board has been completely overhauled to make it faster, more forgiving and ultra responsive"
So does that mean last years model won't go as fast as this years version ?
"More forgiving" and "Ultra responsive" is contradicting.
Pure marketing hype. But Superfish boards are always good sellers for those moving down in size from a Funboard.

When you read this thread underneath there are other posts on 7S boards have a read of them too.
GSI boards are not too bad and I would certainly consider the epoxy side of the models for more durability.

For standard Sydney sessions I can't see a problem PU or epoxy. Down to what feels right under your feet!

FWIW they keep a high resale value in the used market here...used boards seem to still be in good shape, not covered in pressure dents and dings.

Thanks for the tips guys i have alsp read all the other threads concerning the 7s board but this seems tp be a completely new design with no more step deck and the carbon vector tech. Thankfully i have a friend whose board i can have a demo with so ill have a gp and let yall know

A test is best so consider the rest, Go for it!

While i have you all here any tips for improving my backside surfing. Ive watched every yputube video i can and do the action requred but im still not getting it.

What is "happening" on your bottom turn that you're wondering about ? You falling at the bottom turn ? You can't beat the lip ? You can't go up the face ? Can you describe ( or better yet post a picture ) of your hands, feet and body positioning.

Tips wise, just make sure to "take a picture of the wave", as if a camera was stuck to your chest. Or you can "hug the wave", with out spread arms.

By the way, if you can't surf Backside, you shouldn't go to a smaller board. Learn the basics first, which includes being able to go the "other way".

I owned a Superfish in CV. Mine was an 8ft, used for transitioning down. The build quality was good, think the previous models were more durable though, had to get a couple professional repairs done(heard the older ones were more like the Tufflite construction). It served its purpose well, I had it for about a year and sold if for the same price I picked it up for so they do hold their resale value well. You'll also want to look to improve your backside surfing before making a transition to a shorter board. Have to agree with Waikiki that you may not be ready for the step down if you're having trouble in that area.

Yeh my back side surfing just seems tp take a hell of a lot more effort than my front side.. ill keep at it

Keep at what ? Doing the same thing. You need to figure out what you're doing not quite right first. If you keep at it wrong, it become a bad habit.

Im thinking ill go and get another surf lesson and have someone watch me a tell me what im doing wrong
