Looking for a new board.

I have a 6'125, thruster right now... looking for a surfboard thats a little rounder around the rails, longer (1/3 foot more), and for some reason, i think something not too wide would suit me good.

something sort of vintage, but with contemporary/modern performance.

looking at eggs, hybrids, grovelers, etc. I'm pretty new to surfing, but taking that 6'1 out everyday is hit or miss, sometimes i'm catching 10 waves in an hour to no waves in several days.

any brands, surfboard types, etc. that i should look for?

-these are really nice... i know this brand has history, but are they still any good?

^that thing looks fun.. kinda seems perfect for the beach break i surf in, then again, my intuition could be totally bad.

Singles have one fin.

If you want modern/performance but vintage, look more at the 80's thrusters outlines. If you surf at a point break, then singles might be fun. but I think hybrid fuller thruster or even a Mini-Simmons twin will be better than a single.

i have a thruster right now... and its from the 80's haha. it's nice and for a 6'1. i'm learning on it decently, i just want something a little easier/different. something that will allow me to get into the waves sooner. -it seems with this 6'1, ive really got to be in the right spot of the wave (usually right under the lip, which can get kind of stressful, especially when noon starts coming around), and the conditions have to be a certain way to have a nice session. - i should probably try new beaches with the board.

i really like this one:

just check out a mini-simmons and watched a video. pretty nice. they seems kind of floppy like riding on a milk carton. i've got to try all these boards out.

How about a fishy groveller or a DT Scorpion? Scorpions come with a 5 fin option, centre fin being a box so you could ride thruster, quad, single fin, 2+1....they look like a lot of fun. Saw the below fishy groveller in a shop recently....looked like fun too.

This one looks good too...

Wait a bit and I'm sure you'll get a dozen more suggestions, all different and all appealing! Honestly address what it is that you most want from a new board and how realistic it is to presume that you can buy that attribute (I want a board that has more volume or I want to ride a single fin board (hardware dependent-can be bought) vs I want a board that goes really fast and can do snaps off the top (user dependent- must be paid for in effort and hours).

you have a 6'1 thruster, can I bother you for the rest of the dimensions? Also, what fins are you using. And lastly, how much do you weigh? I can chime in after knowing that.

The nugget is a really great wave catcher, much easier than a mini Simmons or a scorpion, but you will need a bigger board so it's a pretty different surfing outcome. I see a nugget as a easy to surf board that has the paddle and wave catching characteristics of a board that is 6-10 inches longer, or so. So if you got a (say) 6'10 nugget, it's like having a 7'6 mini mal, but with the benefits of being shorter.

But it's a very different board to a mini Simmons and, of course, it surfs differently to a longboard. The nugget is almost the complete opposite outline to the scorpion. So I don't think they are very comparable, you need to decide what you are after in a board. Flitting between a mini sim and a longboard is not going to get you anywhere other than confused

I have (as it happens) a 6'10 nugget and a 7'4 mini mal, and while the mini mal is more stable and more forgiving, the nugget is almost as easy to surf and just as easy to catch waves with. I wouldn't surf it on big waves (10 ft face kinda waves) but for my average chest to head high face, down the about waist high, it's great.

Genuine (hand shaped) mccoys will be fairly rare in the US I imagine, but a few people think the xf nugget is pretty close

my weight fluctuates between 130-140 (depending on whether ive been hurt and not active or not) my height is 5'8 and a half.

the fins on this thruster are 5 inches long each. the board is 2 1/3 inches thick. the board is 19 inches wide at its widest point.
roughly a foot wide, right in the middle of the fin section and and it is about 15 inches wide below the nose with about a foot before it reaches the very tip.

the fins are glassed under and permanently attached to the board.

while browsing the web for boards around the web, i was wondering why no boards are wider towards the bottom middle? i feel like that would be ideal, although, maybe not as maneuverable. until i stumbled upon this nugget. so idk. its a hard choice. really wish i could have all of them.

i like how mini-simmons can be aggressive and fun on smaller surf, but i also like duality of the nugget, in that it catches like a mini-mal, but performs sort of like a short board. ...and i really want an old fashioned longboard because im itching to drop into waves early, and ride smaller waves, something ive been trying to do on my shortboard, the only times i get succesfull is when i jam the nose down while popping up, but it still doesnt have that ease.

i feel like a good longboard is easy to come by... im really digging these mccoy nuggets... maybe i can get my shaper to replicate one. and MAYBE make my own mini-simmons...

any suggestions on a longboard? i really want something classic.

i know this sounds spoiled, but im living with my mom, i go to college and its free (low income benefit)... my job is decent, and so is my car. so my expenses are really low. so i'm thinking about splurging on some boards before my mom officially kicks me out (probably a few months, and the new boards will speed up the process). i should probably buy a wetsuit, but i live in california, i'll be fine.

if you watch this video about the nugget, you'll see the design innovation of it around the fin/tail area. sort of neat.
