I'm interested learning to surf. My question is, I'm 6'5", I have experience skateboarding, and more and most recently snowbording and wakeboarding, is it still my best bet to start on a long board or could I adjust my learning curve to a short board which seems more versatile?

If you're good at those other sports it seems your balance is probably pretty good. But remember you have to take into account paddling on a small board is more difficult, sitting on the board is more difficult if you're on a shortboard, and you still have to learn popping up, which I don't think other sports really help you there. I'd say go with a 7'10"-8'6" board if you don't want a longboard. A 7'10" is pretty easy to learn on and I've found (from riding my friend's) that it's fairly meneuverable(sp?). I ride an 8'6" by the way, and love it.
