my board

Postby LoLo7 » Mon Oct 27, 2014 12:44 pm

Hi, I've only been surfing for about two years, but feel like I'm getting nowhere with the board that I'm using. I'm thinking that it may be too big for me. I'm female, weigh 50kg and am riding a Randy French Soul Fish Tuflite. It's 6ft 10 x 22 x 2 5/8. On holiday overseas in September I borrowed this guy's AL Merrick Pod, it was a 5'8' and I didn't think I would be able to stand up on it, but I was fine... note that standing up and falling off straight away was all I did. So I am looking to get something smaller, would I be wrong in looking at 5'8 to maybe 6'4? Appreciate any advice you could give me... In case you need further information, I am from Australia on the East Coast and usually surf at a spot called The Farm with is a beach break..thanks

Nice place the Farm, and it should provide you with a good learning ground. Bombo is more shorebreaky about your board it is ok for your learning, I would not advise you to go much smaller something 6'4" would be OK though. A more basic shape maybe!

The Randy French fish might be a little specialised. In shape but it should be ok :D
I know it is rude to ask but how tall are you and how much do you weigh, and age they are factors too.
Also after two years I too would expect a little more in what I would be able to do , do you get to the beach often or only every now and then, frequency of surfing is important!
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

When you say you are 'getting no where', what do you mean? As in, just not catching waves, or feeling like your progress is stalled, or falling off or nose diving too often? Some of those are board related, some of those are skill related and a smaller board will just make it worse.

Hi and thanks for answering my questions, I try and get there at least twice a week during winter, and 4 or more now that summer is coming... I made a mistake, it's only been one year. Yes I'm just over 5ft and weigh 50kg. I just feel like the board is too big, I am always trying to make sure I'm in the right spot on the board. I have the tendency to nose dive every now and then, not always, but there are days that I will nose dive the entire day, and the next day I'll be fine.... I just think that for my height and weight, the 6'10 fish might be just too big. Suggestions? (Maybe I just don't like the board anymore and that's affecting my ability) :)
