Hey guys I am going to university near the ocean and I am looking to pick up a beginner board to use every weekend, I just have a few questions about getting a board. I have some paddle surfing experience, I actually own a Riviera Nugg, and I know how to surf on long boards but I don't do that too frequently. I am 5'9" and 165lbs and I am looking at a Lost Tri-Fish 6'4", do you think this board is too small for me? The dimensions are 6'4" X 19 1/4" X 2 1/2".
Thanks

Yes - 19 1/4 is way too narrow.
If you're in the market for something 6'4ish (and you might be better off with something a touch longer) then go for a more traditional fish width around 22", and 2 3/4" thick.

Yeah, for a beginner surfing on the weekends only, I would start with a mid 7ft mini mal board. Otherwise you will just get frustrated. While elements of SUPs are similar to surfing, lots of it isnt.

I've surfed on 7' boards before no problem but maybe I should stay away from this, although I do like the idea of short boards.

Look, you can always get the board if you think you want it and see what happens. But its a board for an intermediate/advanced surfer, so its not really the best for your level. As DBB said, if you want a short board then get a fish (or egg) rather than a high performance
