I learned in Cocoa and moved to oregon shortly after about 4 years back. I own a 6'6 3 fin thruster. I've rode a few times way back but haven't since. I'm 6'2 195. One, would jacksonville support me with these dimensions because I was thinking of surfing a few times a week before work and I want something versatile and to trade it in. 2nd, if not, what would be a better size 7'2? Possibly a fun board? Any suggestions will help. I'd call me a rookie just because its been 4-5 years since I surfed. Thanks guys.

I just relocated to jax as well. Not all 6'6 are created equal. Do you have other measurements? Even the smaller days here have been more shortboardable than where I'm from.

Are you against longboarding? It will make everything easier to get the hang of then you could move down to the 6'6. If your persistent you could just keep the 6'6 and go out at every opportunity to get the hang of it.

The popup is probably one of the more difficult things to get the hang of on shorter boards, try some white water pop ups to get the hang of it.

Where are you surfing in jax? Later this week looks pretty fun.

yea, i'm hoping to get out when it warms up. I need some practice. I was gonna give it a shot on my board for a month and see where i'm at. i was thinking of trading it in and paying a little more for a long board if. I'm not against it, just want spend the day before or after work out there again. My biggest concern if it was just to small for me for the surf here, or should i just buck up. I haven't surfed out here yet, but everyone keeps telling me Atlantic? What about you?

Your board should be fine if its not super thin but a longboard would probably make things a whole lot easier and enjoyable in a quicker manner.

Atlantic beach? The entire island is just sand so you will have to find some bars that work in certain conditions on the open beach. I would recommend looking at structures that block wind and current to surf around. With those come crowds though.
