Board Recommendation For My First Shortboard

Postby StangWaves » Sun Mar 31, 2013 6:12 pm

Hi everyone!

I have been surfing for about 6 months and about 6 weeks ago I moved down from my 7'6 funboard to a 5'8 Lost Bottom Feeder that my buddy let me buy off of him. The transition was fairly easy (took about one session to get use to the board) and now I am having a blast with the bottom feeder. However, the bottom feeder is more of a hybrid shortboard as it has a ton of volume (21.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches thick) in comparison to a standard shortboard, especially for a guy my size (a little over 5'6 and 145 pounds).

It works well on days up to about overhead but the problem is that it has almost no rocker and I have problems nailing really steep drops which makes sense since the board is meant for smaller surf. So I am thinking for those days, I should have a more standard shortboard so here I am asking what anyone here recommends in terms of dimensions or particular boards.

Thanks for any recommendations!

6'0 x 19 x 2 3/8 if you want easy to paddle like the bottom feeder, the flat (not really flat, but flatter) sections is about the same size. If you want an easier duckdivng board or higher performance go smaller, but the transition to this size should be the same
