I am looking to get a new board. I learned to surf in high school on a 5 6 singlefin mccoy, and was average at best but over the past 20 yrs have surfed about twice a year. Was looking possibly at a funboard like a degree33 stepping stone or turning point, but also since I am just starting to get back into it was looking at some used boards that r cheaper like a 6'4 surf tech UFO ultraflx or a 6'6 custom mike Doyle that was made for someone who was 220lbs. I'm 180 5'8" and surf in s Texas were the waves generally have a lot of cross chop and mush and no higher than head high. I'm not tied into any of these options just would like to hear what you have to say! Thank for the advise...and before u say it..I don't want a long board...

Well, looking at your suggestions I would not go with the ultraflex if you only surf twice a year, but if you want that size go with something with more volume. The stepping stone is your run of the mill funboard. Seems you have the right idea in mind, and are looking at epoxies, so check out the Channel Islands 6'7 biscuit, the rusty the 7'0 Rusty Big Cat, and if you are looking at the degree 33 boards the 6'8 turning point might be a better call. Lastly, check out the randy french 6'10 on this website, that would work too.
Good luck, seems like you are headed in the right direction

Thanks, I have been about twice a year but I've moved back closer to the coast so hoping to go about once a week this summer, or at least every day it is too rough to fish, I don't know if that would change your suggestions or not. Thanks again.

Ok I have looked around and this is what I have found. If u have had any experience on any of these please let me know.
Degree33 turning point 6 8. Mixed reviews from what I have found
Triple x red barrel funboard 6 10
Equinox chimera 6 6 funboard, also the classic, stealth or primo hybrid 6 8
Isle 76 funshape, 6 8 big guy short board, or 6 6 quadfish. These r all in he same $ range so if there is something else I am missing please let me know, but recommending something 300 more isn't going to help...thanks

I once snapped an Isle board and dinged up a 7S, surfed fine. Seems you have the right idea, 7S is a popular one.
Size wise I would stick to 6'8 or bigger

A longboard is a solid investment on the gulf coast especially if your only going to surf summer.

Of course it is so long as it has some offroad wheels. Perfect for angering the greens keepers!

Extreme surfgolfing. Now that is a real man's sport.
