Upgrading to second board.

Hi Guys,
I'm currently living in Fremantle,Western Australia. I've been riding a 7'1" 7S Board at a few of the beaches nearby. I bought the board second hand and am looking to upgrade. I've had a look at the Shane Stingray 6'8" and am pretty impressed with it. I would class myself as an advanced beginner to intermediate. I can paddle comfortably, duck dive, stand, and am beginning to ride across waves. I find my board a bit sluggish on the paddle, and when I start to drop into a wave some times the nose dives and catapults me off. The Shane board is meant to be a bit thicker (2 3/4" rather than 2.5") and the nose is a bit stubbier so I think it should be a bit easier to paddle and a bit more buoyant when I drop into the wave. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh
