Upgrading to second board.

Hi Guys,

I'm currently living in Fremantle,Western Australia. I've been riding a 7'1" 7S Board at a few of the beaches nearby. I bought the board second hand and am looking to upgrade. I've had a look at the Shane Stingray 6'8" and am pretty impressed with it. I would class myself as an advanced beginner to intermediate. I can paddle comfortably, duck dive, stand, and am beginning to ride across waves. I find my board a bit sluggish on the paddle, and when I start to drop into a wave some times the nose dives and catapults me off. The Shane board is meant to be a bit thicker (2 3/4" rather than 2.5") and the nose is a bit stubbier so I think it should be a bit easier to paddle and a bit more buoyant when I drop into the wave. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh as with any query on boards it is a good thing to add your height weight and age to your question as it helps us help you more>
Sounds like at this stage you're rebounding through several positions in your paddling and I would suggest the 7S is not the problem but how you are going through your paddling!.
The performance of the two boards would be similar ( well as two boards can be) just the differences in the volume could be a definite factor effecting your surfing and we can only advise after getting your dimensions.
As a ferinstance a 7'3" poly 7S can float a 90Kg in its category , but that usually supports the better surfers. Your current board may well be tired and not as buoyant as it was was.
Hope this helps :D

Although I know ladies don't like to answer, how much do you weigh and how tall are you?

Hi Josh1986, welcome to Surfing Waves!

Is Port Beach your local spot? It used to be mine when I lived in Mosman Park for a while.

That's weird, when I read the post I thought the first line said that Josh was a Female. On a second look, Fremantle.

LOL, I read too fast, I thought it read "I'm a female, in Western Australia..."

Anyway, we usually can tell if your size is ok based on your weight
