What Board Should I Buy?

Hey all,

I am looking to buy my first board and get into surfing. I live in San Fran right buy the water but have never surfed. Its time. Ive skateboarded for 6 years (pools and tranny) and have been a swimmer for nine. Im not looking to buy a humungo log for my first board. I want to challenge myself and learn on a short board.

what size board should i get? I was thinking about 7'0 - 7'8. I am 6'1 and about 160.

what do you guys think?

Matt

You should buy a 9 foot lonboard. Get it from Wise or one of the other Ocean Beach surf shops. Don't buy an Asian pop-out or knock-off. You'll also need a 4/3 suit to keep warm.

I don't want a longboard. Best size shortboard?

Hey Aloharider,

I agree with the guys that say about longboards. You can be wise or try, try, try and maybe give up.

with a 4/3 fullsuit and your weight in my opinion have a fun and grab a 9`. Try before you buy, rent it.

Hey all! Sorry for not listening but the other night i went out and bought me a 7'6" board. Went out for my first session ever today on the jetty and had a great time! only fell a couple times usually got up every 1/3 trys and rode about 10 seconds. I had an amazing time and I'm totally hooked now. Surfing is like cocaine. and my board rips:)

If you are happy with the board, that's what counts. It's good to hear that you are getting on with it well.
