First time board!!!

Hi there,

I've been surfing once and am hooked!!!
I'm living up in newcastle and have a wetsuit but am looking around to find a decent, second-hand board. I've been advised that the NSP's are pretty hot. BIC's are pretty good too & probably slightly cheaper than NSP's so I'm thinking maybe a BIC will be a good start. I'm about 5'6" (I think) and 65kg (not good with stones, think that's between 9 and 10st). Am thinking along the lines of a 6'6" - 7'6" sizewise. Would that be right for me? I like the look of 6'8" NSP shortboard.

Any advice would be great!!! I don't want to go and get a brand new board for a first timer so I'm gonna have to keep a look out for second hand ones. Also, what's the best bet for finding second-hand boards around Newcastle? Anyone know?

Hi saffasurfer7, welcome to Surfing Waves.

Check out the board buying guide on the main site at
https://surfing-waves.com/beginner_surfboard.htm for starters which also has a look at buying a second hand surfboard. Are you in Newcastle England?

Thanks Surf Patrol,

yeah, i'm in england. (I wish i was in newcastle, Australia, I think finding a board locally would be less of a mission and the waves would be on slightly the warmer side, I'm sure) :)

I've actually decided on probably the 6'8" NSP board, it looks like a safe bet and good for progressing on. Do you reckon it'll be worth my while trying to find a second-hand one or just going for new. I've seen new ones for £225 (+ p&p = £235)+ free board bag and wax. Sounds like a good deal. Would it be any cheaper second-hand? Bearing in mind I might have to fork out for a bag as well.

Try the free ads papers, these are always a good place to pick up boards.
