I've been out surfing a couple times on my friend's funboard so I've been looking around to get one of my own but I'm a little lost on what to get. I found a couple epoxy boards like the nsp funboard for around $400 and I wanted to know if these boards are worth getting to learn on or should i save up for a traditional fiberglass board?

Hi
I'm afraid I can't help you (sorry!) but was wondering the same thing myself as I've been learning for about 4 months now on softboards and I'm now keen to get my own. My instructor has let me use a couple of different epoxy boards, a 7'2 and a 7'6, and he reckons they are good in between boards for someone of my level (which yesterday was just diabolical!)
So very interested in knowing the general opinion on this type of board....
Sam

NSP boards are alright. They are heavy as all crap though and are really corky in the water. Why don't you look at a second hand PU board if u are going to upgrade to a better board once you get better. That way you have a board with better feel for even cheaper than the NSP.

Ya I've been told i should try and find a used PU board but im a little hesitant about it cuz idk wut to look for to make sure im getting a good used board. and i also like the NSP cuz its really durable so i wont ding it up too badly. im not really looking for a top of the line board i just need something decent to get me out in the water every once in a while.

^ sounds like an nsp/bic would be a good choice. you can't really break them, they work, and usually hold decent value when it comes time to upgrade. i'd check your local craigslist/newspaper/surfshops too
