Which board Which board...??

Postby Sitting_goose » Wed Sep 16, 2009 1:05 am

Hello =)

I've been surfing for a year now on a 7'6 NSP board, and now that i can catch the waves well i'm wanting to be able to progress a bit, and learn how to do cutbacks etc. I've talked to two different shapers and they have given me 2 choices of boards that they recommend.. both are different and i'm not sure which would be best so thought i'd post on here and see what you guys think =) I'm 5'2, and weigh 50kg's. Also, because i learnt on longboards the way i get to my feet is by doing a little press up thing, then jumping up, so i need a board which i can do that on without nose diving. Both shapers say the boards they have recommended will be sweet for that. I surf mainly 4 or 5 foot waves.

Board 1:
6'6 funboard (6'6 x 20 1/2 x 2 1/2 wide nose and tail ) He says this has plenty of rocker, and will be good for doing better turns and duckdiving.

Board 2:
6'6 performance fish, low rocker. He said this will allow me to have plenty of foam and paddle easy, while allowing me to work on turns etc.

At this stage i'm leaning towards the fish, because it's a bit cheaper, and the shaper is a great surfer haha. If i got the fish would i be able to duckdive it eventually? and is plenty or low rocker better?

Any help would be appreciated =)

Thanks, Celeste.

Get the fish. I love my fishes, have 2 and one more on the way. The fish will outperform the funboard and still have the same glide.

If I may recommend a bit further, have him make it a quad fish. I've bought several fishes until I got it wired to what I like. The twin fin just slid out too easily on big waves but had super glide, the thruster set-up seem too slow, like a big shortboard, but the quad more hold than the twin and more glide than the thruster, great for more variety of waves. I've had the quad fish out (by mistake) in overhead walled waves and even then I had a great time with it, the twin would have driven me crazy.
