We are looking for a board for our 11 year old daughter. She has had about 10 lessons on the normal foam softboards in Bournemouth.

We have been advised to go for a mini-mal but have been advised 2 lengths. 1 surf shop said 7ft max and another said 7'6 :?:

We have a maximum budget of £300 all in so leash, bag etc.... have to come in with that.

She will be surfing approx 3 times a week summer and once a week when school restarts.

She is very tall for her age 5'3 and a bit lol. And she weighs approx 6 stone (slightly under that is anything)

We want a good board that will last her a long time and take a lot of dings etc.. Also would like to keep this board as we get a lot of flat days in bournemouth, so at least she can take it out still and have a fun day on it.

Any help very gratefully received, as i am totally new to all this surf stuff and my brain is getting friend with all the different info

At that weight she really doesnt need much at all to get moving. I think a 7ish board would do her just fine. Plus that will be easier for her to carry then a a larger longboard. Also if shes surfing 3 times a week she will pick any board up rather quickly.

i think this is one of the cases when a Bic board may be really useful, it will take the knocks of a younger user and still look ok in a years time.

it will get her stood and catching waves and suit her until she has shown the ongoing passion for the activity that woudl merit a larger outlay.

also as she progresses the size etc of board she needs may change so no point in going in at the deep end for her first board.

try a bic natural surf or similar.

Thanks for the input everyone. We are off to the local surf shop beginning of next week to have a look.

The one problem now is my daughter has fallen in love with a roger cooper board. so trying to steer her away from that lol.

I will take a look at the bic board and see how she feels with it.

She is absolutely loving the lessons, rain or shine she is out there, trying to stand up lol, she manages it 5/10 at the moment.

First surfing injury today very slightly pulled tummy muscle so a few days rest and then back at it.
