please help a beginner

well i have surfed maybe twice and i really dont want to keep having to go back and keep renting. i did ok and want to keep practicing. im pretty fit and i learn fast. im about 5'2-5'3 and i way about 110. i dont want to jsut get a funboard cuz i would get tired of it fast. so what kind of board should i get that will help me learn AND let me have fun with it eventually?

Well, it sounds like your looking to go short? If you are i would suggest a 6'2" or a 6'6" fish. A fish has more volume so its easier to paddle with and surf on. It will also allow you to really rip when you get good enough. I would suggest going back a renting a few more times then buying a board. But do what you want. You can learn on a shortboard but it is a bit tougher.

he should get a shorter fish dont you think? so he can turn easy.

well, yes he could go shorter. i suggested that lenght because if he has never surfed he might find it a bit to fausterating to learn on a 5'10 fish.... however because of his weight he can ride. My brother tried learning on a 6' retro fish and he couldnt sit on it.... he was 5'7" and 125 pounds i think.

actually im a girl..lol. but i went yesterday to rent again but a new guy was in there and he gave me a 6'6 board and i coudnt sit on it and got so frustrated. so i went back and got a NSP 7'2 and it was much better. what do you guys think?
