Another What Board Request

Postby Tenaciousgreen » Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:26 am

But before you get the little headbanger out again hear me out -

What a week!!! Mini Torando blows my garage door in hitting my car, the trampoline blows through my fence and then today in large surf, my one and only board snaps in half. It was a 6' 8" Big fish. Its now a 3' 4" small fish x 2.

Anyway Funds permitting, gotta get a new board a quick as possible as its that time of year here in WA, consistent swell between the storms. So here's the dilema.

I am 5'8", 81 kgs, 34 years and I have only been surfing a year in which time I learnt on the same Big Fish and can catch decent size green waves, bottom turn and tentatively find my way when its not closing out. So still quite a novice, however I feel comfortable on the shorter style board having learnt on the Big fish. So that in mind, looking forward what should I go for?

I was thinking maybe 6'4" with a bit of width and thickness but could do with some reassurances.

Thanks in advance

I would go with a 6'6" at 19" width at the widest part and around 2 1/2" thick maybe 2 5/8".

Thanks. What about the tail? Should I stick with the Fish or go for something else?

As long as you get either a sqash tail or a fish you have the stability you need.

Thanks for your input Charvey. Just for info I purchased my new board today. I went for a DHD in the following dimensions :

6'6 x 19 1/2 x 2 5/8's

Havn't surfed it yet but can't wait. The forecast is small tomorrow, but might just go for a paddle anyway!
