Hey Mr. Surf Patrol,
I need some advice, I am interested in buying a board, I just started surfing this summer (June) and have been at it every weekend since then.

Would a 7ft 9' board be suitable or do you reckon a longer board??

Yours in surf,
Jane.

p.s. The surf in the West of Ireland is excellent.

Hello Jane and Welcome to Surfing Waves Forum!

Thought i'd get in there myself first...

Hey Jane,

How would you rate your surfing?! Only i would say for choosing a board your ability is more important than how long you have been surfing, and lets face it everyone learns at different paces.

What are you surfing on at the moment?! A mini mal maybe....?

7'9'' sounds pretty fine to me anyway. It'll be a challenge i reckon, but at least it brings on development...

A 7'9'' surfboard sounds just right.

Hi Jane,

Good advice from Duncs (ta Duncs). A minimal at this size should give you a good start, especially if you don't weigh too much. The larger you are and the more unfit you are, the bigger the board you need.
The good thing about starting on a board this size is that it gives you lots of room to improve, without having to replace it once your skill level has improved beyond novice.

Hope that helps you.
