What boards right for me ?

Postby fuzioneer » Mon Jun 21, 2004 4:49 pm

Hi,
I'm a 37 year old Male, height 5'11", weight 200lbs, and a complete beginner to the surfing lark :) had 1 lesson and 2 goes myself, however think I have a problem with my board. Its a Bic mini mal 7ft 3" foamie, I think it may be to small for me !!!

If i lie on the board in the water in the best position so that the nose is sticking up out of water rather than being flat or nosing down then my feet are over the end of the board and hence i find it hard to do the swift transference to the standing pose as i have nothing to lever against with my feet. When i did my lesson my board was larger and my toes were pressed against the back of the board, hence my reasoning is my board is too short, is that correct ?

If so what size board should I be going for ?

I am a little limited as i am travelling around France in a huge motorhome, but its garage storage space is only 7ft 7" wide although my present board goes in diagonally, I think its maximum would be around 8ft long.
