Which board

Postby Dbase » Mon Mar 04, 2024 4:12 pm

So I'm 6 ft 2. 105kg.

Few years surfing. Tried a 5'11 36l board and really enjoyed the speed. But too small for me.

Would you think a 6'3 40l would be a better choice?

How old are you? How good are you/ability level? What is your current board? Where do you surf? How often do you surf? What kind of board/shape is the 6’3”?

FWIW I am about the same size as you; surfing here in Bali where the waves can be pretty good I have boards that range from 36L to 106L and from 5'10" to 10 1/2ft. Wheelhouse for me in good waves is 39-40L and I have a few in that size. I'm a little tired, currents running strong, waves on the bigger side, I'll opt for more float and/or longer length. Fatter waves get paired with wider tails, less rocker and more volume. I would guess that at your weight you probably ought to go for a board a bit bigger if you want an all arounder for most conditions. At 105kg I need at minimum OH waves to get the board to work, preferably 1.5OH @ 13-14sec. Less than that I'm taking a higher volume.
