Asymmetrical Boards, Hype or amazing?

Postby Ratfinksurfer » Fri Aug 23, 2019 8:45 pm

I just thought it would be interesting to start a conversation about Asym boards. Honestly I feel like I'm still too much of a Noob to warrant an Asym. So that's another aspect of this asym question: at what skill level does it make sense to ride an asym?

I think I understand the general water dynamics at play, there's less material under your heel side and more rail on your toe. Two fins on the heel and one on your toe, right? I'm curious what others on the forum think of asym boards. Should every surfer have one in their quiver? Should everyone try one at least once? Should you be a semi-pro to even consider riding one? So many questions.

Now you want one too right?

Geez. They are expensive!

I surf mostly beachies so can go left and right within 2 waves; so an asym would be pointless. They look interesting

Listen to one of the greatest longboarder said that was said to him by one of the greatest innovator in surf design George Greenough. Start at 25.00.

Although I don't agree with the statement as we don't stand with our belly button forward, but to the side. So the response would be to them, " what about non-asymmetrical gold clubs ? "
