Same board 6'4 vs 6'6 make a big difference?

Postby Elyawp » Fri Jul 07, 2017 6:46 am

Hi all :)

I'm going to get a new surfboard.
I'm in a level where Im still going down in size and kind of intermediate...
I surfed yesterday my smallest board yet, a6'6 superfish S7.

And had a lot of fun!

I want to get the FireWire Creeper.
That's the type of board I need that can hold me (I'm 90kg and 1:90 cm)

The question is will it be OK or a big difference to get a 6'6 45.5 Liters vs a 6'4 44 Liters?

How big of a difference is it?
Any suggestions,??

Thanks

The other design features rather than just length and volume are more likely to make a difference in how the board surfs. Shape of the board, width, how the foam is distributed, tail shape epoxy vs PU construction and rocker are going to separate the boards more than the two criteria you listed.

It will also make a difference where you want to surf the board and in what kind of conditions.

Two questions: What is your current board(s)? Why don't you want to get the superfish since that is what you had a lot of fun on?

The Double Bump-Swallow of the 7S superfish will ride very differently than the Round tail ( which I say is more Round-Pin ) of the Firewire Creeper. The 7S is geared more towards your level of surfer . The Creeper is design by Rob Machado and geared for surfers who surf like him, smooth flowing transitional turns. Can you do those ?
Stick with the 7S Superfish like BigH recommended.

Thanks for both of you for the answers...

Yes I know, but the superfish is a rental and and it's with a lot of dings and repairs and they don't want to sell it (I'm in El Salvador right now).
The criteria I feel is most important in the board is paddle power because I'm heavy and don't have that much strength.
From what I've read and heard of the creeper it has a lot of volume under the chest and paddling is easy...

I definitely see myself as a rob Machado "style", I prefer "cruising" and having wide turns and flow than a more aggressive type of riding, that is the same for me.in snowboarding so I know that's just my vibe of riding.
And yes I had fun on the superfish, but the main thing that maid it fun for me is that I realized I can surf a board shorter then 7 foot. The feeling of a "small" board under me was exciting :)

The step deck of the 7S has more "hidden volume", people I sold them to really like the float compared to it's size. The Creeper has more Knifey / thinner edged rails compared to the Superfish, hope you don't mind those.
By the way, "every" board is marketed as "easy paddling". No brand has a board they says "sucks at paddling",................... it usually the rider.
But it looks like you have your heart set on the Creeper. So i recommend between two sizes, go for the larger of the two.
