In need of help. Should I buy this board ?

Postby rares » Sat May 27, 2017 12:16 pm

Cheers everyone. I hope this is in the right category, otherwise I'm sorry. First post and all.

I am a beginner and looking to buy myself a new board, but I don't have a lot of cash, therefore I'm looking for something second hand. I live in The Hague, Netherlands and finding a decently priced longboard is quite hard. However, I found this ad earlier

https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/tuin-en-terras/tuindecoratie/m1169163366-classic-vintage-surfplank-surfboard-voor-tuin-decoratie.html?c=8c285449651fa109c354bbabe740c1b&previousPage=lr&pos=9

Price is nice, board looks nice, but it has a small problem which you can see in the lat picture (also attached). It is also written in the description that is lightly twisted at the tail.

How bad is that going to affect me ? Is it worth the money ?
I don't have a really good feeling about that, but then again a longboard for that money around here is quite rare and everthing else looks fine on the board.

Thanks a lot for your help :)

the board is pretty and that is about all..... The twist in the tail is a worry, and if you are worried as a beginner looking at that , your judgement is already good.
If you can avoid it don't buy a problem particularly when you don't have the skills to adapt to it.
Be patient, and keep looking :D

Thanks a lot for the swift reply. I will then skip it and keep looking :)

I was also wondering what problems are there to be faced from the twist in the tail ?

thanks again :)

Most likely the board will be easier to ride and turn on rights and you will feel more resistance to turning to the left. They make asymmetrical boards but the theories involved are not to well worked out. I have heard that in some cases regular stance surfers will enjoy the way an asymmetrical board made for a goofy foot surfer works.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

It's cheap for a reason. Probably because that owner lives in a shoebox and has skiis along with a longboard stored in in there. All that is missing is the ping pong table. You can do better......would be a tougher re-sell as well if you got to that point.
