New Board Advice

I am looking at buying a new surfboard because I feel my 5'10, 20 1/4, 2 5/8 and 33 liters is hard to turn and lacks maneuverability. I am 5'5 , 125 pounds, female, reasonably fit and 14 years old. I can pump,bottom turn, and working on cutbacks as well as top turns. I can catch waves easily with my current board so am looking to looses some liters of volume. I cant decide between a small groveler shape like the Js flying pony 5'1 and 27 liters or a more short board shaped board like the lost V3 rocket 5'6 and 26.5 litres. What shape of board would hep me progress to more faster and snappier turns? Thanks for the help.

There are others who can advise you about another board but I would say one thing and that is that you most likely can learn to surf that board better as long as you don't blame the board for your shortcomings. Yes there may be a board that will be easier for you to ride but you can still learn skills from riding your present board and finding that easier board my take a lot of trying various boards to figure out. Ok maybe I will say one more thing and that is getting a board made for you by a good local shaper would be more likely to get you onto the right shape and size for you and where you surf.

The Js show pony is yes a small wave but was designed for pros in their small waves, which is probably not the same size or quality you might be surfing in. 5,1 is really short and I doubt 27L of volume would help you any more with small waves than your other board (33L).I can get my 31L board into really small waves but you just have to be in the right place

What type size model fins are you using ? Just changing the fins will change how the board turns and reacts to your input. If you can, try replace the center fin with a tiny trailer fin. That should help you slide the tail around easier.
YOU can turn your current 5'10", You just need to increase your wave knowledge, technique and timing. Not spending money.
